The history of the Fortress goes back to the 15th century – the brick tower, which also served as a lighthouse, was erected in 1482. It was built and modernised over decades. It once stood almost at the mouth of the Vistula, which in those days was a very important trade route, while Gdańsk was one of the largest trading ports of the Baltic Sea basin. A curiosity – the fortress was never captured!
